In this episode, the team follows West Highland Hunting’s head stalker, Niall Rowantree as he decides which calves and hinds to cull on the estate.

It is winter on the hill, and not all of them will survive. Niall has been nurturing these deer for a year – but he knows that removing the weaker ones will help the rest of the herd. Stalkers Robert Sajitz and Jon Carrington from Blaser Sporting join him on the hill as he tries to track a tricky calf.

Featuring Chrissie Gillies, 28, from Raasay, Mairi Alice Bartlett, 25, from Lewis, and Megan MacLellan, 20, from Morar, they’ve left the cosy comfort of home to train as ghillies on a Highland Estate. They’ve swapped mascara and hair-straighteners for tick-removers and guns. These girls have never met a deer, let alone shot one! They will have to pull the trigger, gralloch deer and work long hours in all weathers – have they got what it takes?

Catch the first programme on BBC Alba at 10pm on 17 February 2014
